I BUILT A UKRAINIAN INSIDE MYSELF is a soon-to-be-released documentary film about the war behind the war in Ukraine… a war for humanity, an ongoing battle to bring life and hope to the most innocent victims of the Russian invasion.
This documentary is the most recent project of American director and winner of 25 Emmy Awards, David Van Hooser. Produced by David’s group, Light Hand Productions – and along with Associate Producers, Christina Katrakis and Roman Kudlay, founders and team leaders of #BeTheLight – this film takes you into the stories of humanity not often seen in news reports. Above all, I BUILT A UKRAINIAN INSIDE MYSELF showcases the unbroken, fearless and defiant spirit of the Ukrainian people.
Starting in the spring of 2022, weeks after the Russian invasion, David journeyed to Ukraine and spent time with the #BeTheLight team in the western region as their base at Vorokhta was becoming a sanctuary and beacon of hope for thousands of Internally Displaced People (IDP). People who were forced from their homes by an aggression seldom seen since World War II. But this documentary is not just about those innocent but courageous victims, it’s also the story of ordinary Ukrainian women and men who stepped up to provide food, clothing, medical aid, shelter and more. And this documentary goes beyond Vorokhta – also profiling this same incredible display of humanity near the frontlines and war zones of Ukraine.
I BUILT A URKAINIAN INSIDE MYSELF is near completion. The goal is to get it seen by as many people as possible at film festivals, on public television, and on streaming services. At some point very soon, David will ignite a Go Fund Me campaign to raise money to complete what will be a powerful and moving documentary. In the meantime, please view the trailer here.
This documentary will be one more way we can all #BeTheLight for people who desperately need to overcome the darkness.
